  3 Feet High and Rising is the happiest and weirdest Hip-Hop has ever been without making sacrifices. Featuring production by Prince Paul, utilizing around 60 samples from every nook that had a cranny (and then one from its granny), the sheer number of samples means another album like this will never happen again (but we can dream)/5().

  De La Soul’s effort, 3 Feet High and Rising, is a serious contender despite how lighthearted it is. This was made before the, horribly constructed, sample clearance process became % mandatory in releasing commercial music. It was, unfortunately due to that and Tommy Boy (record label), that you may never hear the album/5().

  The most inventive, assured, and playful debut in hip-hop history, 3 Feet High and Rising not only proved that rappers didn't have to talk about the streets to succeed, but also expanded the palette of sampling material with a kaleidoscope of sounds and references culled from pop, soul, disco, and even country music/

While the Beasties’ effort was a statement of distinct maturity and unironic brilliance that was desperately needed to save the group from forever being tagged as a novelty act.
